Calcium Aluminate Premelted Refining Slag and Compound Refining Synthetic Slag
The main components of calcium aluminate refining slag are 3CaO·Al₂O₃, Al2O3, SiO2, CaFe2, MgO, etc. These metal ions are combined into CaO-CaF2 base, CaO-Al2O3 base, CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 base, and then the composite material, refining slag is formed. Refining slag is a necessary additive for deoxidation and desulfurization in the refining process of iron and steel enterprises.
There are three kinds of calcium aluminate refining slags produced by KERUI REFRACTORY, they are pre-melting calcium aluminate refining slag, sintering calcium aluminate refining slag and composite calcium aluminate refining slag. They have the functions of rapid slag formation, arc submerging, slag making, absorption of molten steel inclusion and desulfurization. They are of strong deoxidation and desulfurization effect which can reduce gas and impurities in steel. These products are selected from various raw materials by sintering or melting to produce minerals dominated by 12CaO · 7Al2O3, with a content of more than 85%. A large number of calcified components can react with oxygen and sulfur in molten steel to produce products with low melting point and easy to float up, so as to achieve the purpose of purifying molten steel. In ladle refining, it can effectively shorten the steelmaking time, and has strong ability to absorb non-metallic inclusions in steel, and play a significant role in purifying liquid steel.

Using Method of Kerui Calcium Aluminate/Refining Slag
It shall be added into the ladle before tapping, and the amount can be determined according to the current production process conditions. It is recommended to select 3-8g for one ton of steel (it can also be added twice, firstly adding half at the bottom of the ladle, and secondly adding with the steel flow). After argon blowing and stirring at the bottom of the ladle, the gas and impurities in the steel will float fully, the temperature and chemical composition of the molten steel will be uniform, the purity of molten steel will be improved, and the quality of steel will be significantly improved.
【Characteristics of Premelted Refining Slag】
- Rapid slag forming. Due to pre-melting, a mixture with low melting point has been formed, which is added into the furnace to quickly form a liquid state, so as to realize the purpose of slag melting in the initial stage of smelting. After the added premelted steelmaking slag forming agent (CaFe2O4) forms liquid slag, the active lime added later has a large contact surface in the liquid slag and is easy to dissolve. At the same time, the premelted steelmaking slag forming agent (CaFe2O4) has high iron oxide and can quickly reduce the melting point of calcium oxide, which promotes the rapid dissolution of lime. It provides the best slag forming conditions for steelmaking and smelting process. Due to the improvement of slagging conditions and the use efficiency of lime, it saves lime consumption.
- Good slagging creates good dephosphorization conditions in the furnace and realizes the purpose of early dephosphorization to increase the dephosphorization rate by 3 ~ 5%.
- After the use of pre molten slag, the end carbon content and molten pool temperature are higher than the average value indicating that the heat yield is improved and the liquid steel will not be over oxidized, which is beneficial to improve the quality of steel.
- The premelted refining slag can accelerate the dissolution of lime, so there is no need to use fluorite as melting aid to realize fluorine-free steelmaking; The erosion of furnace lining is reduced and the environmental pollution is reduced.
- Good slagging, stable smelting and splashing reduction of molten steel increase the yield of molten steel by about 1%.
- The smelting cycle is shortened. Rapid slag melting and high dephosphorization rate can reduce the smelting time.
